Nunca comento aqui sobre livros brasileiros. Acho que já tem um batalhão de gente dando palpite e então me restrinjo àqueles estrangeiros que vão demorar a aparecer nas livrarias ou que nem aparecerão, novíssimos, mostrando tendências.

E nunca escrevo para que a pessoa compre em inglês. É para mostrar o que há de principal no texto, justamente para o leitor ficar sabendo do que anda acontecendo sem precisar comprar o livro.

Afinal, não fica bem, você, um cozinheiro de quatro costados, desconhecer que o hit do ano em Helsinki é cozinhar trufas sobre musgo seco.

Vamos ser francos. Você compra um livro novo dos grandes chefs, com belíssimas fotos, começa a ler o prefácio, roda pelas receitas e, eventualmente, uma delas te chama a atenção. Não há como fazê-la pois não temos os ingredientes. Mas, tem uma lá no finzinho do livro que vai servir.

Daí, se é um leitor organizado, copia, gruda numa pasta, e… ou entra para o seu repertório ou fica lá dormindo o sono dos justos.

Sou uma compradora confessa e compulsiva de livros de cozinha. Estou perfeitamente ciente que só aparece um por ano, se tanto, que valha a pena para quem é rato de livraria. (Como nomearemos de ora em diante o rato de livrarias virtuais?) Nada para ele roer, mas todo aquele mundo para sapear, “to browse”, como dizem os ingleses. Talvez sejamos os sapos de livraria do futuro.

Os belos livros, agora, pesam mais de oito quilos. Daqueles com páginas sedosas, branco escrito sobre branco, fotos surrealistas, figuras, gente catando mato no pântano, nas florestas, comendo as bochechas dos bichos, as vísceras mais recônditas para conhecer o último sabor, matando frango no soco, chupando o pescoço dele até que fique só osso, e luzidio como marfim. Não há mais o que inventar.

Sem contar os acidentes perigosíssimos que os livros acarretam.

Estava carregando uns três deles, um sobre o Sri Lanka, parrudo como um buda, quando caiu de aresta, aqui, no pé gorducho da Dona Benta. Num raio de luz enxerguei todos os elefantes do Ceilão montados em pirâmide na minha carne macia. Fui tomada imediatamente por uma forte náusea existencial, hematoma gigante e ódio pela comida da Taprobana.

Tudo isso para reiterar meu amor ao Kindle, mas fazer o elogio de um livro de papel de 2012 que me escapou na época. “Dez x 10”.

As ideias são boas, mas para se transformar num livro bom há que misturá-las ao restante com equilíbrio. É bonito, é bem editado, tem comidas da moda, daquelas que estamos comendo agora, como tartare de abacaxi com hortelã, tem receitas antigas, como empada de camarão, umas modernices brasileiras, como camarão grelhado com taioba. Sem pretensão, com tradução em inglês no fim. E o melhor de tudo é que se cair no pé não faz grande dano.
